Health Protection Agency (HPA)
HPA is an independent organisation dedicated to protecting people's health in the UK. It provides impartial advice and authoritative information on health protection issues to the public, to professionals and to government.
The Agency has three specialist centres and a specialist network of local and regional teams. Together they provide an integrated approach to protecting public health and reducing the impact of infections chemicals, poisons and radiation hazards on human health.
The Agency has world-class expertise in many fields including microbiological research and testing and the development of vaccines and therapeutics. It also prepares for new and emerging threats such as bioterrorist attack or new virulent strains of disease.
